Jared "The Waco Kidd" Hamby surprised with an impressive comeback after entering the final table with the short stack in Event 40: a $1 500 buy-in No-Limit Hold'em tourney at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.
Hamby took the title, bracelet and a substantial $525 272 in prize money in a final table featuring no previous bracelet winners and a strong representation of South American players.

Steve Gross' WSOP dry-spell came to an end when he outplayed a field of 400 entrants in Event 41: $5000 Pot-Limit Six-Handed event.
Historically, Gross has had 14 cashes playing the WSOP circuit, reaching four final tables before winning this his first gold bracelet, the title and $488 817.
The WSOP noted that each of the top 42 finishers earned a pay day with the 42nd taking home $9,306 in an event that generated a $1 880 000 prize pool.
The final table of six, which again held no gold bracelet winners, finished up:
